The Maha Satipatthana Sutta (M 118), due to its encyclopaedic content and deep teachings,
is the most important sutta on Buddhist meditation. It is more comprehensive than the Anapana, sati
Suttas (the topic of which is also covered by the Maha Satipatthana Sutta). Its relevance today is attested by the fact that many modern psychotherapists base their systems on satpa  h?na.
NOTE: Due to the length of the Maha Satipatthana Sutta, the shorter Satipatthana Sutta (M 10) may be used as the main text, but with references to the Maha Satipatthana Sutta. In this case, both texts will be available for interested students.

The most direct way to learn Buddhism is to read and live the Pali sutras, some of the oldest records we have of the Buddha's teachings. Knowing some Pali helps to have such firsthand wisdom. This popular and effective course (the first of its kind here) is based on “situational” Pali, that is, Pali as used (contextually) in the early teachings themselves. We will learn Pali the way we learn English in our schools today: less grammar, more usage. Topics covered include:
  • The basic structure of the Pali language. [Optional Introductory Class only]*
  • Pali vocabulary and usage.
  • Basic knowledge of important Pali sentences, terms, phrases.
  • Locating suttas in the Pali Canon.
  • Sutta reading and reflection.
  • The Buddha's teaching as living experience.

*THE INTRODUCTORY CLASS (Thu-Fri) will cover the following:

  • The Pali alphabet & sounds
  • The Pali dictionary alphabetical order
  • The Pali Canon: structure & conventions
  • Pali dictionaries and tools
  • Pali & IT (Pali fonts, etc.)

    Other modules
    1. Dhamma,cakka-p,pavattana Sutta (S 56.11)
    2. Kesaputtiya (Kalama) Sutta (A 3.65)
    4. Anapanasati Sutta (M 118)

Any previous module can be specially taught if requested by a minimum class of 5 students. Please book ahead. ________________________________________________________________
