The Ănăpăna,sati Sutta (M 118) is the most important sutta on meditation: its Commentary
says that it teaches the method used by "all the Buddhas". In fact, it is more systematic than the
Satipa..hana Sutta (the topic of which is also covered by the Ănăpăna,sati Sutta). Its important is
attested by the fact that many modern psychotherapists base their systems on this Sutta.

The most direct way to learn Buddhism is to read and directly live the Pali sutras, some of the oldest records we
have of the Buddha's teachings. Knowing some Pali helps to have such firsthand wisdom. This popular and effective
course (the first of its kind here) is based on "situational" Pali, that is, Pali as used (contextually) in the early teachings
themselves. We will learn Pali the way we learn English in our schools today: less grammar, more usage. Topics
covered include:
o The basic structure of the Pali language. [Optional Introductory Class only]*
o Pali vocabulary and usage.
o Basic knowledge of important Pali sentences, terms, phrases.
o Locating suttas in the Pali Canon.
o Sutta reading and reflection.
o The Buddha's teaching as living experience.
